What inspired your green hair color?
I feel like I subconsciously inspired myself with a story I just did called “Crazy Beautiful” about girls doing unconventional things with their beauty looks. A lot of the anecdotes were girls saying, “If a guy doesn’t like my piercings or my tattoos or my short haircut than he’s not worth my time.” So it was this empowering message.
 

How did you get from there to the colorist chair?
I’ve been talking about cutting all my hair off, but I figured I could play with color before I do that. I had ombré hair color, so my colorist dyed the blonder parts green and darkened the rest a little bit. I have to make sure my hair is a little more “done” whether I’m wearing it straight or curly. No one wants to have a green ’fro!
 

Have you tweaked your makeup and clothing choices?
I’ve been wearing a dark lipstick from NARS almost every day, and crazier nail designs. Clothing-wise, it can go two ways: I’m either dressing more chic, in lots of black, or I’m dressing edgier, the opposite extreme—think beat-up boyfriend jeans and leather. Anything in between and you look like a crazy person! 
 

We know your mom had something to say about all this.
She actually took a picture of herself before Sunday church in quite a getup: green eye shadow, a green hat, and a green dress. She was like, “Look Laney, I wore all green today inspired by my baby’s new hair!”
